Market Recommendation: Satisfying your sweet tooth the smart way

I just found this at the local grocery store. I was passing by the bread aisle and for some reason stopped and took a peek at it. And I am glad I did! You rarely find "cookies" that are lactose-free. I mean most of them require milk or butter in them to make'em taste good. Though this does not technically qualify as a cookie (more in the realm of a protein bar), it is still pretty close.

Packed with generous serving of raisins, this is a great summer afternoon treat. You can keep it with you if you are hiking or biking somewhere. It's a great source of instant energy. Google the name and you will learn some healthy facts about the product and the bio on the maker. I am all for healthy food but here I am more concerned about good tasting food :) So will let you google the healthy facts.

Official Name: Oatmeal Raisin Bite-lettes

Price: $5.99 (I agree its a bit pricey but is worth it)

Where I bought it from? Harris Teeter

Twist time: Simple and Quick

These tastes pretty good as they are but if you want to try something different, give the following a shot.

There is so much that can be done with this but since I just found it I kept it basic, ensuring the idea of a "cookie" or the bite-size concept was still alive.

Our miracle addition here is Soy Yogurt! There are several brands out there that are readily available at local grocery stores. I plan on writing a separate post on my favorites but that's for later. So for this twist I went with a banana flavor. So here's the deal:

What do you need?

- A small serving of the Banana Soy yogurt (one of those small cup packs)
- Diced fresh strawberries
- A little honey (easy on this as the cookies are fairly sweet themselves)

How to make it?

- Throw in the strawberries in with the yogurt and pour the honey over it

And Whala! Use the yogurt mix as a dipping sauce or just throw in some pieces of the cookies to make a nice healthy snack.

Important thing to note:

This is not a certified Lactose Free product but if you read the ingredients there's nothing in there that has lactose in it. But since its made in a facility where milk products are made, I guess its not certified. For most people its close enough. So if you are very sensitive to lactose then please don't use this as it may have traces of milk. Fear not I have some certified vegan and lactose-free ones coming up soon.

Btw, I have a few more of these hidden gems, so stay tuned!
