Who Am I?

I am a consultant living in the Washington DC area. For several years, I traveled for work and had the opportunity to try some amazing food. But as I hit my mid-twenties, I discovered that I had developed lactose intolerance. I had no clue how to go about finding dairy free food on a regular basis. Sure I found one or two things here and there but wasn't sure how to sustain that diet. I was scared of eating foods with diary and of the pains that came from doing so, therefore I started to eat less. I lost over 30 lbs (~14 kgs) in less than 2 months. I was a lightweight guy to begin with, so losing 30 lbs really affected my health.

Lost I turned to the internet. I found random sites but rarely found any apt information. There were several elaborate Vegan and Gluten free recipe sites. But I didn't cook, at least not on a regular basis, so I needed help to understand what I can buy from the local grocery stores, how to find dairy sensitive restaurants, and ideas for simple 30 minutes-or-less recipes. For help, I turned to a good friend, who was lactose intolerant too but followed a strict vegan diet. She was godsend for me as she showed me the ropes.

But the world of dairy-free diet is still relatively unknown to me. As I am learning to cope, I have been discovering great food options and recipes at regular grocery stores and common farmers markets. But as you might know allergen-free food doesn't always taste good. So in this blog I will list my finds and twists on how prepare them so you will lick the dishes clean.

  2. It is important to have your house routinely checked for mold, especially if you live in a humid climate. The longer a mold problem persists, the harder it is to eradicate.
